Detail: Philadelphia, Here I come! was first produced here at the Gaiety Theatre on the 28th September 1964. It went on to Broadway to universal acclaim. The play is considered as Brian Friel’s masterpiece and for its time, the theatrical devise of Gar Public and Gar Private was extremely unusual.

The production arriving at the Gaiety in March 2010, will be produced by Noel Pearson who produced the multi Tony Award winning production of Dancing At Lughnasa in New York. The new cast for Philadelphia, Here I Come! will include Gerard McSorley, Brid Brennan and Rosaleen Linehan, who coincidently were members of the Tony Award winning production of Dancing At Lughnasa.

This production will be directed by Dominic Dromgoole, artistic director of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, London. This is Dominic's first Production in Ireland. The production will go for an initial five weeks in Dublin.

Brian Friel is undoubtedly one of the finest playwrights working in the English language today. Although he turned eighty this year, there seems to be no diminution in his work load. He will be very involved in this production.
